Maternity wards and calf village

Comfortable conditions in the maternity wards facilitate giving birth to healthy calves.
The maternity ward is one of the most important places of the farm because at the birth and after it a calf is most vulnerable to negative impacts of the environment. Accordingly, the hygienic conditions created in the maternity ward are so vital for getting healthy calves.

“Rusmolco” usually imports heifers on the 4-5th month of pregnancy and several months later they start calving. For this purpose special comfortable pre-delivery and maternity wards are prepared on the farm.
The maternity wards locate in a warmed barn. Here 16 convenient isolated wards with soft warm bedding are provided where cows give birth to calves. They are also equipped with all required tools and drugs.

The new-born calves stay with their mother-cows for several hours after which they are moved to individual houses equipped with everything required for normal growing of youngsters – pens, feeding facilities, ventilation. The houses are grouped near a maternity ward. This is the calf village. It represents a special shed located on a separate site protected from rain, snow, wind and draughts. Even in the wintertime a calf receives everything it needs and with good feeding and deep bed the animal may successfully stand even strong frosts.
